The Art of Healing

Throughout the spaces in our hospitals, pieces of art are on display to enhance the healing environment and support patient and visitor wellbeing.

Art Council

The Art Council’s mandate is to collect (through donations or loans), curate and display works of art that inspire and bring joy to our patients, visitors and their families as well as staff, physicians and volunteers.

Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital's 1.6 million square feet of space provides opportunities to display moving, inspiring and supportive works of art. The Council builds on the hospital’s existing collection and works with artists, collectors and benefactors to create a space of healing.

Close to Home is our newest hospital exhibition, organized by Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) Art Council Curator Shannon Anderson. This year-long project brings together artists from a rich range of cultural backgrounds, with works that speak to each artist’s connection to their country of origin and to ideas surrounding home, migration, and what it means to belong. Through these artworks, Close to Home highlights the unique and diverse cultural experiences that inform Canadian identity.
